Alzheimer's disease drug development

Crossbeta’s main program involves the development of a small molecule drug for the treatment of Alzheimer’s disease. With the proprietary technology Crossbeta has developed, it is possible to use oligomers in a high throughput screen, something that was previously not possible. Early 2012, a successful screening campaign of more than 100,000 compounds was completed, that resulted in about 100 confirmed hits. After several subsequent screening steps this will ultimately result in 2-5 hit classes, to which Crossbeta will be the sole and full beneficiary. Starting in the second quarter of 2012 these hit classes will be further developed to chemically optimize the drug properties, such as solubility, lack of toxicity, ability to get into the brain and breakdown and elimination routes and speed.
