Misfolding of proteins and their aggregation may lead to (auto-) immunological responses and the clinical manifestation of various chronic diseases, like rheumatoid arthritis (RA), atherosclerosis and amyloidosis. The flip-side of this very same coin is the (beneficial) use of the immunostimulating properties of crossbeta structures in vaccines, be it prophylactic or therapeutic. Hence, the same principles that underlie (auto-)immune diseases can be used to develop several applications for the detection and treatment of diseases. Crossbeta Biosciences focuses on:
